Market on Monday: Nifty closed above 26,150, Sensex rose by 638 points.
Indian benchmarks started the short holiday week on a strong note. Nifty was seen going above 26,150 intraday. This was due to buying across sectors, positive global cues and continued buying by FIIs and DIIs.
At the end of trading, Sensex was up 638.12 points or 0.77 percent at 85,567.48 and Nifty was up 206 points or 0.79 percent at 26,172.40. The Broader Index had outperformed the Main Index. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices closed 0.8 per cent and 1 per cent higher.
Biggest gainers on Nifty were Shriram Finance, Trent, Wipro, Infosys, Bharti Airtel, while losers included SBI, HDFC Life, Cipla, Tata Consumer, Kotak Mahindra Bank. All sectoral indices closed with gains, in which Capital Goods, Metal, IT closed with a gain of 1-2%.
