
Market on Wednesday: Market closed on a strong note in 2025, Sensex rose 546 points, Nifty closed above 26,100.
Indian equity markets closed on a strong note in the last trading session of 2025 (first day of January series). Nifty closed above 26,100. Sectors like Metal, PSU Bank, Oil & Gas contributed to this rally, while the IT sector remained under pressure. At the end of the trading session, Sensex closed 545.52 points or 0.64% higher at 85,220.60 and Nifty closed 190.75 points or 0.74% higher at 26,129.60. Mid and smallcap indices outperformed the main indices, with the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices rising 1% each.
In the month of December, BSE Sensex fell by 0.5% and Nifty fell by 0.3%. Whereas on annual basis, both the benchmarks increased by 10% in 2025.
JSW Steel, Tata Steel, ONGC, SBI Life Insurance, Kotak Mahindra Bank were among the top gainers of Nifty. While losers included TCS, Bajaj Finance, Tech Mahindra, Grasim Industries and Infosys.
On the sectoral front, barring IT and Telecom, all other indices closed in the green, with Metal, Media, Capital Goods, Realty, Private Bank, PSU Bank, Consumer Durables, Power rising 1% each, while Oil & Gas index rose 2.5%.
